What is Polar Challenge?

Polar Challenge is a competitive, 350 mile, team Polar Race in the Arctic, to the 1996 location of the Magnetic North Pole and beyond.

The race takes place between mid-April and mid-May each year, taking teams approximately 4 weeks to complete including the training time and is televised annually to 168 million homes in 107 countries.

The still air temperature is between 20 and 35 degrees C below zero. Wind chill will bring it down to -65. Inside the tents with the stove on, it can become relatively warm, but the heat will soon disappear. In the mornings we will need to put the stoves into our sleeping bags just to bring it up to a temperature where it will work.
