Obesity is on the rise, with 300 million people diagnosed as clinically obese Worldwide (The World Health Organisation, 2003). In the UK obesity is increasing at a rate of 1 to 3 percent a year, with approximately 24% of adults having a BMI of over 30. Obesity and lack of physical activity contributes up to one-third of cancers of the breast, colon, stomach and kidney. Obesity related deaths are now second only to those related to smoking (WHO, 2001).

It is estimated by 2050, that half the UK population will be obese, increasing premature death from co-morbidities associated with obesity. So, what can we do? Exercising in a supervised environment, where your health, fitness, safety and enjoyment remain our primary concern, can help reduce your risk of premature death, by increasing your fat free mass, promoting physiological and psychological health benefits.

We are in the process of liaising with local GP surgeries to encourage the treatment of obesity and other clinical health issues within the Helston area. This will bring us up to date with other areas in the UK who have already demonstrated success with Exercise Referral Programs. This is where you come in!

We are offering significantly reduced price Personal Training to those who meet the criteria below, as part of a case study. The case study will be used to demonstrate the effects of exercise on those suffering from obesity (with or without associated health conditions/co-morbidities), to healthcare professionals at local GP surgeries. Your program will follow the same format as our Personal Training, but you will be supervised by an Exercise Referral Specialist who is qualified to adapt exercise for your condition(s), and training status.

If you would like to participate in this case study, please ensure you meet the following criteria, and complete the form below. This is our second intake of case study participants, and therefore anticipate a high volume of interest. We cannot guarantee you will be selected this time, but will keep all entrants' details on file for future studies, unless you request otherwise.
